This site is run by me, Dan Leibrandt. I collect as little about you as I can, and I never sell it. This page explains what I collect, why, and what you can do about it.
What I collect
When you join my newsletter. I collect your email address. If you sign up from the book section, I also note that you want to hear about Optimized to Death. I use this only to send you my letters, news about the show and the book, and the occasional related announcement.
When you contact me. The contact form asks for your name, your email, what you're reaching out about, your show or organization, a link, and your message. If you email me or message me directly, I see whatever you send. I use this only to read and reply to you.
When you visit the site. I don't run advertising trackers or set cookies of my own. My hosting provider automatically processes basic technical information, such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you request, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
Services that help run this site
A few trusted services handle information on my behalf. Each has its own privacy policy.
- Kit stores newsletter subscribers and sends the emails.
- Web3Forms delivers contact form messages to my inbox.
- Cloudflare hosts the site and protects it from attacks.
- YouTube plays episode videos. A video only loads after you press play, and from that point YouTube may set its own cookies.
Links to other sites, such as my social accounts or a guest's book, take you to places with their own policies. I'm not responsible for how they handle your information.
Your choices
Every email I send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom, and you can use it at any time. You can also email me at dan@danleibrandt.com to ask what information I have about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. I'll respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR in Europe or the CCPA in California may give you additional rights, and I'll honor them.
How long I keep it
I keep your email address for as long as you're subscribed. When you unsubscribe, I stop emailing you, and I'll delete your address entirely if you ask. I keep contact messages for as long as they're useful for our conversation, then delete them.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection, and the services above use industry-standard security. No method of sending or storing information online is perfectly secure, but I take reasonable care to protect what you share.
Children
This site isn't directed at children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent me information, email me and I'll delete it.
Changes
If I change this policy, I'll post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change is significant, I'll let newsletter subscribers know.
